Haye And Bellew Set For Famous British Bust Up
16:35, 27 Feb 2017

All eyes this Saturday night will be on the O2 Arena in London with David Haye and Tony Bellew set to clash in a grudge fight, and it will be the latest in a long line of famous all-British fights. The pair of rivals will be settling their long running feud in the ring and this one is unlikely to last too long with both men capable of big performances when at their best.

With Haye and Bellew set to clash we have taken a lok back at some famous all-British fights from down the years, and there was plenty to choose from. Is there anything better than a domestic dust-up?

Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn

Perhaps the most famous of all the famous British fights with these two middleweights the most hated of rivals. Eubank and Benn couldn't have been any different in and out of the ring but together they put on two famous fights back in the 90s. Eubank, the arrogant stylist, taking on a Nigel Benn, who was come forward angry slugger and it was a match made in heaven and one that made both of their careers.

The pair of them went toe-to-toe when they first met in November 1990 with Eubank showing amazing heart to come out on top with a TKO in famous circumstances. The pair of them duly obliged us with a rematch three years later and with 42,000 watching at Old Trafford the pair of them fought out a famous draw.

Carl Froch v George Groves

Carl Froch was expecting an easy night when he defended his Super Middleweight World title against George Groves in November 2013 but the Cobra was in for a rude awakening. Groves came out of the traps like a greyhound and managed to put down the Nottingham fighter with a massive right-hand in the 1st round with only the bell saving him from an early KO.

Groves dominated that first fight for long periods before Carl Froch showed all of his bravery to come back and earn a hugely controversial stoppage win in the 9th round.

There had to be a rematch and there was. Over 80,000 packed into Wembley Stadium the following May and with groves once again acquitting himself well, Carl Froch landed a monster right hand to end the contest in stunning circumstances. Both fighters enhanced their careers and it was a famous night for British sport as a whole.

Lennox Lewis v Frank Bruno

We have to go back to 1993 for this fight between two of our most famous heavyweights.

Frank Bruno was the peoples champion and he was looking to pick up the heavyweight title at the third time of asking as he challenged Lennox Lewis at the Cardiff Arms Park in front of a packed crowd.

It wasn't to be for Bruno as future great Lennox Lewis ground him down with his trademark jab before finishing him off in the 7th round. Both men would of course go on to greater achievements during their careers but this was a great night of boxing and one that will live long in the memory of tall those who witnessed the Battle Of Britian.
