England get their defence of the Under 19 European Championship underway today as they take on Turkey in Finland. Kick off is live on Sky Sports Football at 4.30pm and we have plucked out three star names for you to keep an eye on throughout the tournament.
Trevoh Chalobah
The younger brother of Watford and England under 21 ace Nathaniel, Trevoh is a player very much in the mould of his brother. A technically gifted centre-back, Chalobah will be a key part of England’s European campaign and was part of the Three Lions’ success in this tournament last year in Georgia.
First-team football is vital to Chalobah’s progression and he will get that this upcoming season, as he has been loaned to Ipswich Town in the Championship. His parent club, Chelsea, will be hoping he can impress out on loan and return to the club as a valuable asset. That way he can break into the first team, or be sold on for a profit.
An exciting talent who should be one to watch in Finland over the coming weeks.
Ben Brereton
Nottingham Forest’s Ben Brereton is another supremely talented player who tasted success at this tournament last year. Brereton has the advantage of having real experience playing competitive first team football, with over 50 appearances under his belt, Brereton is ready to make a big impact on this tournament.
He will be leading the line for England at this tournament and should have his eye on the Golden Boot as he looks to add to the four goals he has already scored for the Three Lions at this level. The 19-year-old is certainly making an impression in the Championship and this tournament could be the making of this young star.
Dujon Sterling
Dujon Sterling is the third player on this list who was a winner at this tournament 12 months ago. The Chelsea right-back is just 18-years-old and will be another key player for England this summer as they look to recreate the success they had last year.
A pacey full-back who can play all down the right-hand side of the pitch, Sterling will provide width and attacking threat as well as defensive solidity for the Three Lions. League One side Coventry City could have picked up quite the coup in securing his loan signing for the coming season as after this tournament, he could have many other potential suitors.
