Think your Christmas is over? That you’ve opened all of your gifts? Allow The Sportsman and the Italian Serie B to provide you with one more gift.

As much as we all love a good thronker – as Andros Townsend helped prove last week against Manchester City – in equal fashion that’s a good chance that we can happily spare the time to watch a bloody stonking howler, once, or twice, or ten.

Ascoli ‘shot-stopper’ Filippo Perucchini is the subject of the latest excruciating moment, after gifting Palermo an astonishing opener in embarrassing fashion.

The former AC Milan goalkeeper had a night to forget in Palermo which saw three goals sail past him. The first, however, was entirely his own making.  Just before the half an hour mark, Perucchini attempted a drag back to avoid the onrushing striker.

Instead of controlling the ball, it slipped from underneath his feet and the exasperation is almost visible from the footage – available to view below – as the ball creaked over the line.

The deadlock was broken and Palermo went on to record a 3-0 win, thanks also to goals by Ivailo Chochev and Przemyslaw Szyminski at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Perucchini never made the first-team at Milan over an 11 year-period, and was loaned out four-times. He is a new acquisition for Ascoli, having arrived in the summer.

One doesn’t have to think too hard at what Perucchini’s New Year Resolution is going to be.

Palermo remain top of Serie B, continuing to vie for promotion. Ascoli sit right in mid-table in 11th.
