A Family Affair: Hughie Fury Attempts To Follow In His Cousin Tyson's Footsteps

A Family Affair: Hughie Fury Attempts To Follow In His Cousin Tyson's Footsteps

Undefeated heavyweight Hughie Fury, in his fight against New Zealander Joseph Parker, has a chance to put his family name among the most accomplished in the modern history of boxing.

In the fight, held tonight at the Manchester Arena, Hughie will be aiming to reclaim the WBO belt vacated by his older cousin Tyson last year.

Peter Fury, father of Hughie, will be in his son's corner tonight, as he was for his Nephew Tyson when he became the unified and lineal champion of the same division in 2015.

23-year-old Fury (20-0-0,10 KOs) is not dissimilar in style to his older cousin. He likes to fight on the outside and uses his jab and the full area of the ring to keep himself there. The approach of 25-year-old Parker (23-0-0, 18KOs) could hardly be more distinct: he's a brutish puncher, a knockout artist, an old-school Heavyweight champion.

Doubts have been raised in some quarters over each of these fighters future at the very top table of heavyweight boxing, with many unheralded names among the 43 men they've bested between them to date.

But Fury, who has suffered from a debilitating skin condition for the duration of his career, has said this week that a newly cleared bill of health, together with an extensive training camp in the fresh air of the Lake District, has allowed him to work himself into a new height of physical condition in the build-up to this bout.

This fight comes at a crucial juncture in each fighters career, a win for either would elevate them into the elite handful of heavyweights into the world and toward the front of the crowded queue to for the biggest fight - and payday - in the division, a fight with Anthony Joshua.

In classic boxing parlance, somebody's "0" has got to go in Manchester tonight. Should Hughie Fury claim the WBO strap tonight in his home town, it would be another proud moment for a house of proud fighting men.

The fight is available for pay-per-view on Youtube and will cost £14.99 and we've included a link through which the fight can be purchased below.
