A Horse Walks Into A Bar... No, Really!
11:57, 02 Oct 2018

The old ‘horse walks into a bar’ joke is one of the cornerstones of your dad’s comedy repertoire and it’s just burst into reality for a set of drinkers in Chantilly, France.

The proprietor of the bar, called Le Chantilly, Stephane Jasmin, who posted a video of the freak occurrence online, said: "The horse pushed in through the door and ran down the bar. She turned round at the end, breaking a table and some chairs, and ran back.

"Five minutes earlier there were fully 20 people standing at the bar but they all left to catch the 9.55 train to Paris. Fortunately, no-one was injured but we were all scared."

PMU bars are the equivalent of betting shops across the channel, but the Jean-Marie Beguigne-trained animal obviously didn’t fancy having a punt on the day.

The French handler explained what had happened to Ouest France. “Between the training track and the stables the filly dropped her rider and escaped down the road. She crossed a roundabout before running into the bar. It was extraordinary!”

"She has a penchant for escape but even so, she was panicked and took a decision completely against a horse's nature. She suffered no injuries, nor even really any anxiety. Her rider has been able to climb back aboard since."

Thankfully, as she noted, nobody was hurt in the incident, as the bar had emptied out shortly before as customers left to take a train from the nearby station.
