A Huge UFC Upset As Volkov Knocks Out Werdum In London

There was a huge upset during the main event of UFC London on Saturday night as a new heavyweight was crowned when Alexander Volkov knocked out Fabricio Werdum in stunning fashion.

Werdum, who is something of a veteran of the sport, had gone into the fight as the bookmakers' favourite thanks to a fine career record of 23-7-1, during which he had defeated some of the very best fighters that heavyweight MMA has to offer. The 40-year-old looked to be cruising to victory during the opening 15 minutes of the bout, controlling the fight and appearing to be heading to yet another routine win.

However, Volkov, the 6ft 7in Russian, had other ideas in the fourth round as he had already given Werdum a swollen right eye before unleashing a sensational flurry that turned the fight completely on its head.

Voklov unleashed a multi-punch combo that left Werdum in serious trouble before he knocked the Brazilian out with a huge punch.

The win for Volkov, or 'Drago' as he is affectionately known, ensures his own career record now stands at 30-6 and the 29-year-old is unbeaten in four UFC bouts.  He could well be in contention for a championship fight next, potentially against either Stipe Miocic or Daniel Cormier.
