A Pre-Cheltenham Festival Tip From Plumpton

A Pre-Cheltenham Festival Tip From Plumpton
12:20, 12 Mar 2018

With now just over 24 hours until we hear that famous Cheltenham roar, National hunt fans are salivating at the prospect of four fantastic days of racing down at Prestbury Park. In the mean time I'm here with my selection for this afternoon which comes from East Sussex at Plumpton in today's 15:20 class 3 handicap hurdle over 3m1f.

Trainer Chris Gordon sends his 11 year old veteran BALLYHEIGUE BAY to Plumpton this afternoon as he goes in search of a hat trick of wins. 2018 has been a fantastic year so far for this son of Rudiementary. He won over this course and distance back in January when beating Sandhurst Lad by 2 and a half lengths on soft ground before going on to land the spoils at Ascot last month in a class 3 handicap over 2m7f.

When scoring at today's venue in January young jockey Harry Reed took the ride and gave him an absolute peach. He's back in the saddle today and his 7lb claim could prove vital. The main danger looks to be Warren Greatex's Sandhurst Lad who has proven strong in the market this morning.

However when we look at some of the stats behind Ballyheigue Boy we see that he has 2 wins from 3 over today's course and distance. 3 wins from 4 when wearing cheek pieces and 2 wins and 2 places from 5 when running here at Plumpton. All this in mind the 7/2 currently available looks very appealing and I'll be getting stuck in hoping to build some funds ready for the week ahead.
