On Friday night, MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers sensationally won his bout with Ash Griffiths by technical submission in just the first round. This was Chalmers’ Bellator debut and the Geordie lad showed no fear for the occasion by ending the fight in just under two minutes.
Griffiths was put to sleep as Chalmers, known in and around the octagon as ‘The Joker’, got him in a vice-like grip by the edge of the ring in a standing position, and when the lad from Hartlepool went limp, referee intervention was required.
Chalmers has made the move from TV star to MMA contender with ease.
The welterweight is consistently proving his doubters wrong. Chambers famously appeared on reality TV show Geordie Shore and many had questioned whether Chalmers was simply cashing in on his relative celebrity status, but now with four knockouts on the bounce, it seems the Newcastle native is having the last laugh.
The 31 year-old had his first bout a little over a year ago, and has between Greg Jenkins, Alex Thompson, and Karl Donaldson on his way to meeting Griffiths.
On Friday night at the SSE Arena in London, Chalmers was supported by his former co-stars Charlotte Crosby and Josh Ritchie for his big fight, and oozed confidence from the off. Griffiths did connect early on in the round, landing a murky looking knee to Chalmers’ head, which Chalmers’ subsequently responded to with the first-round finish.
Chalmers celebrated the win by screaming ‘F*ck You’ down the camera.
He remains unbeaten as a professional.
