Tyson Fury has remarkably not been nominated for the 2018 Sports Personality Of The Year award. Instead the six sports people nominated are Harry Kane, Lewis Hamilton, Jimmy Anderson, Geraint Thomas, Dina Asher-Smith and Lizzy Yarnold but sports fans and famous faces alike have been taking to Twitter to vent their frustration at the decision which was taken by an ‘expert’ panel.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren was one of the first to comment saying: “To be fair this is an absolute joke.”
His trainer Ben Davison put: "What an opportunity for @BBCSPOTY to do there part in raising awareness for mental health and many other things, to help inspire people. For a man to come back from where he has, while at the same time saving thousands of lives along with inspiring millions. Shame on them."
Meanwhile, Piers Morgan was actually saying something people agreed with for once as he gave his opinion: “Tyson Fury not even nominated? What a joke.”
Fans also put in their two-pence as Sam Jones on Twitter said: "This man defines the word personality."
Michael Benson coined one of Fury’s favourite phrases to tweet his thoughts: “Feel like Harry Kane was probably always going to win SPOTY this year, but for Tyson Fury not to even be nominated..? Dossers.”
Other comments ranged from: “I don’t think any other person deserves the #SportsPersonality of the year 2018 more than @Tyson_Fury. Especially the way mental health has been the past few years and the way he’s opened up about it but not only that, he’s a great sportsman as well.
Harry Kane and Geraint Thomas are now joint-favourites to scoop the award after impressive years but the people’s champion is present at the awards and will hopefully get some congratulations for his fantastic comeback and the work he has done raising awareness of mental health issues.
What a joke. #BBCSPOTY
No boxer has more personality than your man @Tyson_Fury 🤣😛 #SPOTY
