''Always A Fraud'' - Celtic Fans Unfurl Banner To Slam Leicester City Defector Brendan Rodgers
It is fair to say that Celtic fans weren't overly pleased to see Brendan Rodgers swap the manager's job at Parkhead for the hotseat at the King Power Stadium with Leicester City earlier this week and they let their feelings be known on Wednesday night.
The Bhoys were in Scottish Premiership action at Hearts as they looked to extend their lead at the summit of the domestic table and their fans at Tynecastle Park unfurled a banner to let Rodgers know exactly what they thought of him.
The banner read:
You traded immortality for mediocrity.
Never a Celt. Always a fraud.
Rodgers had long insisted that he was a boyhood Celtic fans but it seems unlikely that he will be particularly welcome in the stands of Celtic Park after deciding to leave the club half-way through the season.
It was a stinging blow to the Scottish Premiership leaders as Rodgers had been on the verge of sealing a domestic treble for a third season running and the general assumption was that he would leave in the summer.
However, Leicester pounced on the former Swansea and Liverpool boss as they sought a replacement for Claude Puel, who was sacked earlier this week.
It is perhaps a sign of how far Scottish football has fallen in the eyes of many that Rodgers decided to swerve the opportunity for more silverware with Celtic in order to move south of the border and to take charge of a mid-table Premier League club.
Rodgers is astute and ambitious enough to know that doing a good job at Leicester - perhaps pushing for a top-six finish - will put him in the shop window if a job at one of the division's traditional 'Big Six' were to become available again. Unfortunately, winning silverware season after season with Celtic doesn't appear to cut the mustard with Rodgers.
For Celtic fans, they have made their feelings about Rodgers crystal clear.
