Amir Khan returned to the ring for the first time in nearly two years tonight and produced one of the quickest wins in recent memory over the hapless Phil Lo Greco.
Khan looked confident as he strode towards the ring and in truth it was over before it had even started. The Bolton fighter, known for his lightning quick hand speed, set about Lo Greco from the bell and an early knockdown was a sign of things to come.
"King Khan" smelt blood and he pounced on his rival with a blurring combination of hand speed and power to take down Lo Greco for a 2nd time inside the first minute. The referee had no choice but to wave the fight off and despite being shortchanged, the Liverpool crowd erupted with delight.
It really was a stunning return to the ring for one of the biggest names in British boxing and the future now looks bright for him at 147lbs. A fight with Kell Brook is surely the obvious fight for both men and the interest in that bout has ramped up a notch following one of the most exciting KO wins in a British ring for some time.
Lo Greco was clearly out of his depth but he had been in the ring with better fighters than Khan before, and no one expected the fight to end that quickly. No one.
Few fighters have endured the roller-coaster career that Khan has but it appears as if there is still plenty left in the tank at the age of 31.
The King is back!
