André Schürrle Linked With Crystal Palace Despite Germany World Cup Snub

German World Cup winner André Schürrle has been linked with a summer move to Crystal Palace, but the current Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder will have to spend the next couple of months watching the national team from afar as he has not been called up by Joachim Low for the imminent World Cup, despite been an integral figure in their 2014 tournament win against Argentina.

Schürrle provided the assist for Mario Gotze's winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, but both that duo have not been selected for the Russia showpiece, which kicks off in three weeks, but Schürrle can now spend his summer trying to potentially forge a move back to the Premier League, and it appears Roy Hodgson's Eagles are winning the race to sign the 27-year-old, according to Italian website Calciomercato.

Schürrle has experience of playing in the Premier League having played at Chelsea for a couple of years between 2013 and 2015, which also saw him help the Blues to a Premier League title, but having only made 26 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund last season then he could well be looking for more regular football, and a move to Selhurst Park could prove a superb move for the player, who is sure to be ruing the chance of not making the German World Cup squad.

Hodgson worked wonders at Palace last season after the Eagles made a dreadful start to the campaign before they eventually cruised to top-flight safety, but the former England manager will not want to rest on that fine second half of the season, and in Schürrle he could have a player that acts a fine partner to the inspirational Wilfried Zaha, and that pairing could launch Palace into the top-half providing Hodgson can buy a useful striker in the summer.

Often a bit-part player at Chelsea, Schürrle made a solid impact at Wolfsburg before moving to Dortmund, and he will see a return to London as a potential catalyst of recapturing his best form, and it could prove to be a decent move for both Schürrle and Palace, who will want solid back-up for the aforementioned Zaha, who they will be eager to keep on the books over the summer.
