Eddie Hearn has claimed that a fight with Tyson Fury simply is not possible due to televison and contractual issues. He has said: “Joshua has commercial contracts he cannot break. When we find out about that offer later on, that Frank was involved and it was to be on BT, can’t you just have a brain to see through the bullsh*t. They know Joshua can’t fight on BT [Sport]”
Frank Warren has reacted to Hearn's claims by speaking to host Ally McCoist, standing in for Alan Brazil, on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on TalkSport:
“We told them we’d make [Tyson] Fury v [Anthony] Joshua any day on a 50:50 split.
“I’ve said it on your programme about 10 times.
“They’re doing their business and obviously they didn’t want to pay Dillian Whyte any money, that’s why the fight didn’t take place at Wembley.
Referring to the recently announced Joshua v Miller fight, Warren continued:
“So they had no alternative than to go to the states.
“I don’t think they had an event that would sell out Wembley.”
Queensberry Promotions owner Warren didn’t let up there though and reeled off the opportunities that Hearn’s team had dismissed, such as a $50m fight with Deontay Wilder.
Warren concluded his conversation stating: “They give crumbs to people, which is why Dillian Whyte isn’t fighting and why they’re finding it difficult to make matches is because they don’t want to pay no-one”
Inevitably the replies to TalkSport’s original tweet was a flurry of opinions, which varied from agreeing with Franks case, to completely slating him for suggesting Fury is ready to fight Joshua commercially.
Paul Bird wrote: “Nobody warrants a 50/50 split, he holds 3 of the belts, even Wilder doesn’t deserve a 50/50 split. Joshua has the belts and the demand, fury doesn’t. Simple really, nobody wants to fight fury and are using money as an excuse. They should want to fight him for 30%”
While Stuart hit back with: “The reason Joshua has those belts is because Fury got stripped of them- no way he’d have the IBF or WBA if fury wasn’t stripped- he’d have the WBO and that would be it- Fury opened up the division”
Sean agreed with Frank, saying: “100% From the outside looking in it just looks like Joshua's camp are a nightmare to deal with.”
Whatever the truth, as boxing fans we’re beginning to think that Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua is slowly becoming more of a pipe dream than a reality, but by the same rule, did anybody ever think Tyson Fury could come back from where he was 18 months ago. Anything can happen.
Anthony Joshua’s next fight will be on June 1st in New York, his first fight outside the UK, where he faces Jarrell Miller, meanwhile Fury is believed to be rematching Wilder in May in Las Vegas, but that’s yet to be confirmed.
"They find it tough to make matches as they don't want to pay nobody, they want to give crumbs to people. That's why Dillian Whyte isn't fighting."
He's absolutely had Eddie Hearn here!
