Anthony Martial's Agent Gets Sassy With Manchester United Over New Deal

There has been a small slither of jouissance for Manchester United fans after the club elected to extend star performer Anthony Martial’s contract for another season, meaning the Frenchman is bound to stay at the club until the end of the 2019/20.

However, though well within their right to trigger the additional year, as per the terms of the original agreement signed during the Louis Van Gaal era in 2015, the move does cast aspersions on the ability of the club to realistically extend the forward’s tenure at the club well past that date, as the majority of their fanbase would like him to do.

Martial has been a highlight in a dismal season for the Red Devils, currently 19 points behind the league leaders Liverpool. If this was the same situation - the same disparity from the top - in La Liga, they would be mired in a relegation battle.

From going from a player that former manager Jose Mourinho was almost unhesitatingly prepared to sell in the summer, the club are now determined to tie down to a new five-year contract,

Unfortunately for United fans, despite the Portuguese coach’s future being ended, the dark clouds are once again congregating over Old Trafford.

“I am very pessimistic about discussions going positively,”

Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley of ESFA Management told RMC Sport.

“They‘ve already made several offers that come nowhere near to what we expect.”

Before the season began, Anthony Martial had scored a goal once every 175.67 minutes in the Premier League in 2017/18; a better rate than any other Man Utd teammate to play at least 700 minutes (Squawka).

He’s the club top scorer this season with seven in 13, bettering the above stat by registering every 114 minutes and has an astonishing target rate of 92%.

United fans are clamouring for Martial to remain and it is also the player’s inclination to do so, reports the London Evening Standard.

But instead of allowing fans to rejoice, this initial move looks like a failsafe to make sure there is still a high monetary value on the talented player, depending on his inclinations should United fail to procure silverware nor reach a Champions League position as they are looking increasingly likely to do by the end of this so far disappointing season.
