In one of the biggest transfers of the season, Arsenal have ditched current kit supplier Puma in favour of adidas.
The three stripes giant will produce playing and training kit for the Gunners from next season after signing a deal believed to be worth an estimated £60million a season over five years. It's understood to be one of the biggest deals in world football and puts them in the same bracket as Manchester United and Barcelona.
It's not the first time adidas have produced the Arsenal kits. Many of their designs from their last stint between1986 and 1994 are remembered with great fondness by Gunners fans, linked forever with the iconic JVC sponsor.
Adidas replaced long-time supplier Umbro before themselves being losing the contract to Nike in 1994. Nike's association with Arsenal lasted more than 20 years before Puma took over the contract.
The news has gone down well with the majority of Arsenal fans who had been unimpressed by the latest efforts by Puma. There will no doubt be a clamour to revive adidas' legendary bruised banana from the early 1990s. Released around the same time as Manchester United's similarly iconic acid blue shirt, it has become prized by collectors. The zig zag yellow and blue design has been frequently imitated but now adidas have reclaimed their the contract, the "banana" is ripe for picking again.
Adidas only ever made yellow away kits for Arsenal which is, of course, a tradition many fans will approve of. In 1982, Umbro produced a stunning green and blue kit for the Gunners but Nike were a little more adventurous with their alternative designs with blue and turquoise frequently used as well as gold.
Outgoing supplier Puma is widely expected to replace Nike as Manchester City's kit supplier from next summer.
