Arsenal supporters are readying themselves for the potential loan signing of Denis Suarez, who is expected to switch Barcelona for North London this month, in a deal that could well be made permanent should he impress at the Emirates.

Barcelona may have suffered a shock Copa Del Rey last-16 defeat to Levante on Thursday night, but Gunners fans were left drooling at some silky Suarez skill as the tricky midfielder helped win his side win a penalty in the 2-1 loss.

Suarez came off the bench in the 67th minute with Barcelona two goals down. Then, with five minutes left on the clock he picked the ball up on the right-flank, 40 yards from goal. He proceeded to steam down the wing, cheekily nutmegging an opposing defender who dived in for a challenge, before cutting back and bamboozling another, only to then be hacked down in the box, leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty, which Philippe Coutinho dispatched.

Arsenal fans have since taken to Twitter to express their delight at Suarez’s dazzling dribble.

After watching Denis Suarez for 25 minutes I can confirm he’s the best Suarez in the world. He won a penalty with this run. Sign this baller @Arsenal (@Lacazettes)

LOL Arsenal Twitter going mad for Denis Suarez skills at Barca. (@goonersanti)

Can’t deny that was a brilliant piece of skill from Denis Suárez to win the penalty. Looked bright since coming on. (@Jengaa_N)

Suarez, Carrasco and Rodriguez to Arsenal would be too sexy (@panchoaldi)

Suarez has links to Arsenal boss Unai Emery, having played under the Spaniard at Sevilla during the 2014/15 campaign which he spent on loan from Barcelona. He helped Emery’s men win the Europa League that season, while he’s since gone on to add the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana to his trophy cabinet in Catalan country.

However, he’s now widely rumoured to be on the cusp of reuniting with his former boss at Arsenal, a signing the Gunners will hope propels the club to a top-4 finish.

The London side are currently 5th in the Premier League, three points adrift of Chelsea who are positioned in the final Champions League spot. Emery takes his troops across the capital on Saturday where they face West Ham at the London Stadium in the lunchtime kick-off.
