Arsenal’s bid to sign their number one transfer target, Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, have been significantly boosted with the club hopeful that the player will put pen to paper and complete a deal with the club next week.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Suarez is keen on a move in order to reunite with his former boss Unai Emery, whose relationship with the 25-year-old is said to be a significant factor in Arsenal’s attempt to lure the Spaniard over to the Emirates.

At the time of writing there is no official agreement, but Arsenal are hopeful of signing the player on loan with a view for a permanent move in the summer, with The Sun reporting that concrete talks will take place on Monday.

Suarez flourished under Emery during a single season loan spell at Sevilla in 2014/15, helping the club win the Europa League. After a spell at Villarreal, he returned to Barcelona in 2016 and would go on to win the league, a couple of Copa del Reys, and the Super Cup.

The technically gifted player who be a valuable addition given Arsenal’s recent wobble. The Gunners have been missing a spark, suffering three defeats from their last six league games, including yesterday's disappointing 1-0 defeat to West Ham.

Mundo Deportivo also claims that Emery’s style of play represents a very attractive prospect for Suarez, who has struggled to cement himself in Barcelona’s starting line-up this season.

He’s played only 17 La Liga minutes this season, but has scored twice and set up a goal in three Copa del Rey appearances. It’s obvious a change of scenery is needed, and the chance to reunite with a familiar face in Emery is likely to prove too good to turn down.
