In an exclusive with The Sportsman.com Arthur Abraham showed poise heading into his fight with Chris Eubank Jr.
Saturday 15th July sees Arthur Abraham take on Chris Eubank Jr. Defending his IBO super-middleweight title, Eubank has caught the attention of much of the media and is coming in as favourite with many. If Eubank can retain his title it is the start of a new stage in his career. A chance to fight at the inaugural Muhammad Ali Trophy and its $50 million in prize money are at stake.
Abraham, on the other hand, is in the twilight of his career. A glittering record has seen Abraham reach heights only many professionals could dream. He knows going into this what he faces and what he needs to do.
With the attention on Eubank, Abraham has had time to plan his upcoming fight and how he hopes it can pan out. Speaking in an exclusive with The Sportsman, Abraham shared with us his thoughts on how he sees Saturday's fight at Wembley going.
“My strength is my mind” Abraham said through his interpreter.
Perhaps most noticeable about Abraham was how relaxed he is. Not one known for large emotional outbursts he seemed to have a good measure of his opponent. “As a top boxer he [Eubank] has world quality, we respect that. We don’t underestimate that but we don't overestimate that either”
When asked about the fight going 12 rounds Abraham joked if he gets a KO in the first round he can go on holiday sooner. We will have to wait and see what is to happen on Saturday. If Eubank retains his title he will be propelled to new heights and more lucrative deals. Abraham still has much to offer and a wise head can go a long way in 12 rounds. That or he could take an early holiday.
