Barcelona Director Ariedo Braida has said that he does not expect the club to make an approach for the Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.
The World Cup-winner was handed the captain's armband by Jose Mourinho ahead of the Red Devils’ season opener against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday night.
But that did nothing to quell the rumours which have lingered about the Frenchman wanting out of Old Trafford and being keen on a move to La Liga with Barcelona.
In fact, the player himself stoked those rumours with a series of cryptic post-match comments after his side’s 2-1 win, which came in response to a question about his contentment at the club.
"There are things and there are things I cannot say otherwise I will get fined," he said.
"I always give my best for the fans, for the team-mates and for the people that trust me.
"With the players that we have, of course we're Manchester United, we have to look at the top of the league. That's obvious.
"I mean, Manchester United, we have to show on the pitch, we have to play well, we have to be focused and we need people to trust us."
But while those comments have seen talks of a potential transfer, which would be orchestrated by his notorious agent, Mino Raiola, continue, Braida, an executive at the Catalan club, has poured cold water on the rumours.
"I don't think we're going to move for Pogba, but he's a great player," he said to Radio Sportiva (quotes c/o MEN).
While that’s a denial, however, it’s hardly a definitive one, and there might be time for this story to develop more before the window for sales to foreign clubs closes at the end of August. It'll likely be a nervy wait for a lot of the Old Trafford faithful.
