Croatia were all the rage in the summer during the 2018 World Cup as manager Zlatko Dalic led The Chequered Ones through to their first ever major tournament final, where they were of course beaten 4-2 by Didier Deschamps’ France.
The European nation can however look back on what was a simply stupendous summer which will never be forgotten, and it now appears that the country’s famous checkered shirt has even been the inspiration for Barcelona’s new Nike kit for the 2019/20 season.
Journalist Joan Vehils (Twitter: @jvehils) has today (Tuesday) tweeted the rumoured new checkered shirt - scroll down to take a gander - which features those famous squares, albeit not in the red and white of Croatia, but Barcelona’s iconic colours of blue and red in square form.
This particular style of football shirt is admittedly extremely rare, but Barcelona will no doubt make this unique pattern extremely popular next season, should they go ahead with their plans to release the shirt.
Barcelona has enjoyed a five-star start to the new season, having won each of their opening five matches, including a Spanish Super Cup victory over Sevilla and four La Liga triumphs.
Ernesto Valverde’s troops will now be looking to propel their winning run to six matches when they host Dutch side PSV in their opening Champions League group stage match. Barcelona, who are also joined in a tricky Group B by Tottenham and Inter Milan, will be looking to go on and claim their first Champions League trophy since 2014/15.
