Floyd Mayweather’s unusual return to the ring for a fight with the Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa has gotten its own flashy promotional trailer, even though nobody, including the fighters, seem to know quite what is going to happen when the pair meet.
The pair had appeared in a press conference together in November, appearing to announce an official return to the ring for Mayweather to fight the kickboxing sensation Nasukawa, who also fights in the MMA field, but the undefeated American soon baulked, subsequently claiming he’d only agreed to an exhibition bout.
"I want it to be clear that I, Floyd Mayweather, never agreed to an official bout with Tenshin Nasukawa,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
But since the fight appears to be back on, with some strict stipulations being imposed by Mayweather. Money, you’d have to say, seems to talk here.
"It is all about the entertainment," he said. "Nine minutes of entertainment... I'm in the entertainment business."
“This will be full contact competition but the bout is not going on boxing or MMA records.”
Nasukawa sounded entirely more enthusiastic about the affair.
"There has never been a Japanese fighter to face Floyd Mayweather in the ring” he said.
"I would like to make a big impression. I want to get the whole fight community, the whole country of Japan and the entire world involved in this fight."
Will anybody be staying in on December 31 to watch this? No, they won’t, it seems like a farce, but get your eyes on this.
