West Ham United’s reward for knocking out Manchester United at Old Trafford is a home tie against Carabao Cup holders Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side, who have been utterly dominant in this competition winning the last four editions, will travel to London hoping to avoid the same fate that their cross-city rivals suffered tonight. David Moyes tasted a sweet victory at his former stomping ground and now has a last 16 tie against the Premier League champions to look forward to.
Elsewhere Arsenal’s pick-up in form continued with a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon and they will now host Leeds in a huge tie that will evoke memories of Thierry Henry’s goal upon his return to the Emirates Stadium. There are three more all Premier League ties in the last sixteen as Chelsea host Southampton having beaten Aston Villa on penalties, Leicester City host Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur travel to Burnley.
Spurs also relied on penalties to win their round three tie as they got past Wolves at Molineux, while Brighton found things slightly more comfortable in their 2-0 success over Swansea City.
One of the ties of the round in the north west comes as Championship side Preston North End host Liverpool in what should be a cracking atmosphere at Deepdale. A young Reds side thumped Norwich City 3-0 at Carrow Road and Jurgen Klopp will be confident of going deep into this competition, having never won it during his tenure.
Stoke City’s reward for beating Watford is another Premier League opponent in Brentford, this time at home while QPR will host Sunderland which means that we will definitely have a Football League representative in the quarter-finals.
