Screamer can be an overused term in football. Or the term, 'he put some SWAZZ on that'. These over indulgent terms to describe a goal couldn't be levelled at Carl Magney for this absolute thunderbolt scored tonight for Hartlepool at Barrow in the National League.
The 29 year old picked the ball up the ball from a Barrow clearance a good forty yards from goal before trying his luck from range, with the ball soaring into the top left hand corner. Even Magney looked surprised as his jubilant teammates swamped him whilst the small travelling support went wild behind the goal.
Magney's strike would give Hartlepool a 2-1 on the lead having come from behind against their hosts, Conor Newton's goal evening out Luke James' early goal.
The win for Hartlepool will see them go three points ahead of Wednesday night's hosts, with the pair still in the bottom half of the National League giving the Monkey Hangers a bit of breathing space.
Also playing on Wednesday were National League leaders Macclesfield who were held to a 2-2 draw away at Maidenhead. The Silkmen extend their lead at the top of the division by one point, just three points clear of rivals Sutton United with things getting pretty tight as the season nears a climax. Ross Lafayette's late equaliser for Maidenhead doing the chasing pack a big favour in the division.
Carl Magney has only scored four career goals, but his fifth was something he won't forget in a hurry and neither will we!
