Chaotic Scenes As Boxing Fans Brawl Ahead Of Antony Yarde Fight

It was meant to be a showcase night for rising boxing talent but instead it will be more remembered for the scuffles in the audience.

Those who went to see a card which featured Antony Yarde in Brentwood were unimpressed with what they saw in the ring and a fight in the crowd - described by some on social media as little more than handbags - dominated the post-fight talk.

By the time Yarde - the night's major attraction - took to the ring to battle Walter Gabriel Sequeira , many of the crowd had left. Fans watching the fight on BT Sport were all over Twitter asking why Yarde was fighting in a near-empty leisure centre.

Yarde, 27, was defending his WBO Intercontinental Light-Heavyweight title against Walter Gabriel Sequeira at the Brentwood Centre in Essex. Yarde is undefeated in his 17 professional bouts and this was his fifth fight in little over a year. He had just 12 amateur bouts before turning professional.

Fans on social media were more interested with events outside the ring as scuffles broke out in the crowd. @finchydog wrote on Twitter: "I thought this was a preview of Strictly Come Dancing."

@aydeepee posted: "This is the sole reason why I no longer go to live boxing events. I love the sport but way too many boozed up idiots looking for trouble. Happens at most shows these days. Last one I attended was at MEN when Crolla, Warrington, Murray were on bill. Was absolute carnage."

@jemmaraymond was similarly unimpressed: "The people fighting in the crowd at last night's Brentwood card are a bunch of fools! The blame lies entirely with them. I’d be embarrassed to be them or it that was my mates acting that way #YardeSequeira"
