It’s been nearly 24 hours since Chelsea were dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, but Maurizio Sarri remains in a job, for now.
The Italian is expected to be in the dugout for Chelsea’s Europa League second-leg tie against Malmo FF on Thursday, plus their League Cup Final on Sunday, where they face holders Manchester City at Wembley.
Sarri’s future at Stamford Bridge appears to rest on the outcome on those two results, however it appears that Chelsea, who are no strangers to pulling the managerial trigger, have already sounded out a couple of potential replacements for their beleaguered boss.
‘Who?’ you will be wondering, well according to Sky Sports News the Blues have identified both club legend Frank Lampard, now manager of Derby, and the three-time Champions League winning manager, yes we’re talking about Zinedine Zidane.
Frank Lampard and Zinedine Zidane identified as potential replacements for Maurizio Sarri after senior figures at Chelsea hold discussions over his future as head coach.
Lampard has so far impressed in his first job with Derby County, with whom he led to the fifth round of the FA Cup, and is currently bidding to win promotion up to the Premier League.
He may be in the preliminary stages of his managerial career, but Chelsea have seen first hand the impact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had at Man Utd, and could well be tempted to follow suit.
Zidane has been hotly linked with Chelsea over the last couple of weeks. The Frenchman is out-of-work, but reportedly wants assurances before putting pen-to-paper. He enjoyed immense success in a two-and-a-half-year period over in Spain with Real Madrid, although question marks remain over whether he could replicate that in the Premier League.
