Fingers are rattling the keys in many a newsroom as the January transfer window rapidly approaches and the blitz of cross-club transfers commences.

Mundo Deportivo have reported on a list of seven players La Liga champions Barcelona supposedly desire to replace star striker Luis Suarez – who is supposedly aware that his time at the Nou Camp is coming to an end - ranging across the spectrum of Europe’s best and brightest.

Krzysztof Piatek, who started his season with Serie A side Genoa in sizzling fashion, is a contender, as is AC Milan’s Andre Silva, currently lighting up La Liga on loan with Sevilla.

The most interesting alternative name on that wish-list however, reports The Mirror, comes in the form of Alvaro Morata, the current demoralised misfiring Chelsea man.

The 26 year-old striker Morata moved from Real Madrid to Chelsea in a £60million deal 18 months ago, but has so far failed to live up to his heavy price-tag, culminating in him humiliatingly being dropped from the Spain national team to travel to the World Cup in Russia.

An exit to Barcelona – with Suarez moving the other way to Stamford Bridge – would not only be a sensational deal, but may provide the revitalization the Spaniard Morata really needs on turf more comfortable.

Furthermore, with Chelsea making their way through the Europa League – they’re next up against Swedish side Malmo in the first knockout round – Barcelona’s concern with the more prestigious Champions League means both players would be eligible for either competition should the move come into actuality.

At the age of 31 (soon to be 32 at the backend of January), Suarez wouldn’t be a long-term prospect for the Blues but could compliment the more dynamic leading line of Willian, Pedro, and Eden Hazard, though there are concerns about a persistent knee ailment that requires recurring treatment. His most recent spell on the sidelines came towards November’s end.

However, Suarez certainly has Premier League pedigree and does carry a level of gravitas. In three years at Liverpool, Suarez became arguably the deadliest marksman in Europe, awarded the Golden Boot in 2013/14 as the Reds came agonizingly close to ending their long wait for the title. In total he registered

Uruguay’s all-time top goal scorer, after moving to Barca in a £75million move four years ago, in Suarez’ first season in Spain he won the continental treble and has gone on to register an almighty 163 goals in 211 appearances.

Luis Suarez wouldn’t be the first forward to ply his trade at both Liverpool and Chelsea; Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres have both alternated between the two cities. Midfielder Yossi Benayoun is also a notable name who wore both the red and blue in recent years.

Similarly, as much is as made of the ferociousness between the blaugrana and the blancos exists, and the bubbling bile that is spewed in either direction, it hasn’t been entirely uncommon for allegiances to have been swapped between Real Madrid, where Morata was on the books for five years across two spells, and Barcelona; the Brazilian Ronaldo, Samuel Eto’o, and Luis Figo all spring to mind.

Morata’s troubled in West London aren’t looking like ending any time soon – relegated to the bench by manager Maurizio Sarri, meagre opportunities in the Europa, with a tally that comes out to 22 goals in 69 appearances.

Another chance in Spain could prove tempting for both club and player, as well as providing an opportunity to see the sensational Suarez back in the Premier League.
