Day one of the Cheltenham Festival is underway and this is the only place you will need to be to get up-to-the-minute results, as they happen.

13.20: Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

Result:

1st: Appreciate It (8/11 favourite)

2nd: Ballyadam (6/1)

3rd: For Pleasure (40/1)

Willie Mullins' Appreciate It romped to a 24-length win in the opener, running the perfect race under Paul Townend. Blue Lord fell at the last while in second place, while outsider For Pleasure, who led for the majority of the race, secured a third place finish. Read the full race report here. 

 

13.55: Arkle Chase

Result:

1st: Shishkin (4/9 favourite)

2nd: Eldorado Allen (33/1)

3rd: Captain Guinness (10/1)

Shishkin showed his class with a massive win over his rivals, following the success of another favourite, Appreciate It, in the first. Captain Guinness and Allmankind went head-to-head for the opening three quarters of the race before Shishkin took control, passing them both with ease. Eldorado Allen finished well to take second as Captain Guinness held on for third.

 

14.30: Ultima Handicap Chase

Result:

1st: Vintage Clouds (28/1)

2nd: HappyGoLucky (10/3 favourite)

3rd: Aye Right (11/2)

4th: Cepage (14/1)

Vintage Clouds rolled back the years as Ryan Mania rode his first ever Cheltenham Festival winner on board the 11-year-old. It was a battling performance from one of the great horses as favourite HappyGoLucky and second favourite Aye Right were outfought by Vintage Clouds as those three led the entire way around. 

 

15.05: Champion Hurdle

Result:

1st: Honeysuckle (11/10 favourite)

2nd: Sharjah (11/1)

3rd: Epatante (4/1)

4th: Aspire Tower (33/1)

Tipperary jockey Rachael Blackmore became the first female jockey ever to win the Champion Hurdle, having obliterated the field with Honeysuckle. Honeysuckle, now 11 from 11, was well placed behind the leaders and sprinted away from her rivals off the home turn beating Sharjah and Epatante in second and third, respectively. 15.40: Mares Hurdle

Result:

1st: Black Tears (11/1)

2nd: Concertista (10/11 favourite)

3rd: Roksana (3/1)

4th: Indefatigable (33/1)

Black Tears shocked the favourite Concertista, chased her down the home straight and finished so strongly to pip her at the post. Roksana and Concertista, who had looked so strong throughout went head-to-head around the last bend but it was Black Tears who timed her finish to perfection to take the win. 

 

16.15: Juvenile’s Handicap Hurdle

Result:

1st: Jeff Kidder (80/1)

2nd: Saint Sam (9/2 favourite)

3rd: Elham Valley (66/1)

4th: Houx Gris (5/1)

5th: Coltor (12/1)

6th: Sage Advice (14/1)

An 80/1 winner in the penultimate race of the opening day! Jeff Kidder sliced through the field on the home straight as the field parted way for the outsider to come through and win. So many horses in contention at the end of the race but it is Jeff Kidder who comes out on top, from Saint Sam and Elham Valley.

 

16:50: National Hunt Chase

Result:

1st: Galvin (7/2)

2nd: Next Destination (3/1)

3rd: Escaria Ten (11/4 favourite)

4th: Snow Leopardess (16/1)

A brilliant finish to the final race of the day. The front three had streaked away from the field and battled towards the line but it was Galvin who stole a march off the final jump. Next Destination chased him all the way home but Galvin held on, while the favourite Escaria Ten couldn't quite close the gap in third! A thrilling finale to what has been a sensational day of racing here at Cheltenham. Anyone fancy doing it all over again tomorrow?
