Nicky Henderson has revealed that Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Altior will miss the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham this weekend.

The Seven Barrows trained superstar had been mentioned as possible runner for the big race at Prestbury Park this Sunday but Henderson has now confirmed that they will wait for the horse to make his seasonal debut.

The 8-year-old will instead go straight to the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park next month as he looks to continue a long unbeaten run. The High Chaparral gelding goes into the season unbeaten in 14 races and as the defending Champion Chaser having picked up the crown in scintillating fashion at Cheltenham last March, with many believing he is the best horse in training.

Nicky Henderson gave an update on his stable star at a press event ahead of the Bet Victor Gold Cup.

Altior is is terrific form but it's only three weeks before the Tingle Creek and he doesn't really need a race"

The news will be a disappointment to racing fans attending Cheltenham this Sunday for the final day of the November meeting which is perhaps the key early season fixture of the entire season. The weekend will be highlighted by the brilliant Bet Victor Gold Cup on Saturday afternoon and there are 28 left in the big race at the five day stage following the latest round of entries on Monday morning.

As for Altior, he will be bidding to win the Tingle Creek Chase for the first time having missed the race last year due to a minor setback but few would be surprised if the Queen Mother Champion Chase winner claims yet another big race win on the road to the Cheltenham Festival.
