Former teammates Case Keenum and Nick Foles faced off in the NFC Championship game in Philadeplphia on Sunday night. Although it was Foles who would emerge the victor, it was Keenum who showed unbelievable class at the end of the game.
The pair had been quarterbacks at the St Louis Rams in 2015, with Foles the starter and Keenum number two. After five games of that season it was Keenum that was promoted to number one.
In 2017 both players were back up quarterbacks, Keenum now at the Minnesota Vikings and Foles at the Eagles.
It was long odds that the pair would be facing off in a Championship game. Keenum was essentially a third choice QB at the Vikings but injuries to Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford saw him promoted to starter, enjoying a fine season. Foles on the other hand was only thrust in action late in the regular season when Carson Wentz picked up an injury. The Eagles had the best regular season record and Foles has steered them to wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Vikings and set up Super Bowl LII showdown against favourites the New England Patriots.
People forget that Foles was himself a second round pick and he goes up against the greatest of all time Tom Brady on the 4th February in Minnesota. Brady is appearing in his tenth Super Bowl, but those with a long memory will remember his first came courtesy of an injury to starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe earlier in the campaign.
Keenum and Foles shared an embrace at the end of the game, the Eagles winding up 38-7 winners but Keenum showed no hard feelings.
@Vikings quarterback @casekeenum7 is pure class as he shows respect to his former teammate @NFoles_9 đź‘Ź
