Battleoverdoyen is fighting for favouritism for the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival following an excellent Grade 1 success at Naas on Sunday.
The Gordon Elliot trained in-mate won the Lawlor's Of Naas Novices' Hurdle is fine style for Gigginstown and is now expected to go to Prestbury Park in March with leading claims. BetVictor have cut the horse from 12/1 into 6/1 for the Ballymore in March and he is expected to be one of the key Horse Racing Naps of the spring in the wake of this impressive display.
The 6-year-old trained hurdler has now won all three of his starts this term and looks to have a bright future for Elliott and connections.
The Naas contest has been won by the likes of Rule The World, Death Duty and Next Destination in recent years so can be a key race with future stars in mind and plenty will be hoping this latest winner can follow in those illustrious hoof-steps.
The 2/1F pulled clear of some top class horses to mark himself out as one of the star novice hurdlers of the campaign but it wasn't such good news for Willie Mullins with his pre-race contender putting in a terrible display.
The highly touted Tornado Flyer failed to fire despite going off at 9/4 in a performance which leaves a cloud over the rest of his campaign. The 6-year-old was 3rd in the Champion Bumper last season and had been expected to take a high order this term but he went out like a light and connections will be hoping that it is nothing more than a blip.
