They say a race is never over until it's over and that was the case at Newcastle today as we witnessed one of the craziest racing results in recent memory.
The north-east track is known for having a long run to the finish line after the final hurdle and it certainly played out that way this afternoon with three horses involved in a finish to give punters across the country a heart-attack.
With the horses approaching the final hurdle it was Point Break who looked to have the novices' contest sewn up with a ten length lead from his closest challenger but the rest field clearly hadn't read the script.
The leader made a mistake at the last which saw him lose all momentum and open the door for For Three to swoop past him and claim the race win...or so we thought.
The 66/1 shot For Three now looked to have the race at his mercy inside the final furlong but out of nowhere we saw a horse finish like a steam train and claim one of the most unlikely wins you will see all year.
Mountain Hawk, who looked completely out of the contest just seconds earlier seemed to sprout wings and pass both horses in front of him to claim a scarcely believable victory for Tim Easterby and Jamie Hamilton.
Punters across the country were left cursing the result with plenty losing money on the in-play markets with the eventual winner a massive price to claim the win with just a couple of furlongs left in the contest.
Proof that it is never over until it is over!
