Cristiano Ronaldo may have only been at Juventus for a matter of months but the Portuguese superstar has fuelled rumours that he could link-up with his former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney before he hangs up his boots.
The duo famously spent five years together at Man Utd, during which they helped the Red Devils win a hat-trick of Premier League titles, the Champions League trophy, along with a couple of League Cups, and an FA Cup.
In an interview with Gary Lineker for Goalhanger Ronaldo has spoken of the bond he shared with ‘pit ball’ Rooney, and the possibility of reuniting in the future:
“I have great memories of him. He's a fantastic lad, as you say in England. I always call him between me and my mates the ‘pit bull’. I remember when he lost the ball, he was so powerful. Strong guy, his shooting was unbelievable and he scored many goals.
"He’s fantastic. I miss him. The future, nobody knows, maybe we'll play one day together again.”
While it's extremely unlikely they would both be playing in the same Premier League side again, the MLS could well be Ronaldo's next port of call when he leaves he Juventus. And who knows, Rooney could still be plying his trade over in America.
Ronaldo would go on to relive the controversial incident that occurred during the clash between Portugal and England at the 2006 World Cup when he was filmed winking after Rooney was sent off.
“A big drama was created which never existed. So when I arrived (back in England)] I was kind of afraid, not because of Rooney, because of the England supporters.
“I do not regret what I did because when I play for my country you defend your colours. I didn’t do anything bad. The (media) made a huge story when I did the wink, but it was not because of the circumstances of the moment with Rooney, it was another situation.
“It's the past, I had a chat with him when I arrived back in Manchester. We are still friends, we speak about that and we had a normal conversation and he understands my point of view of that moment.”
Ronaldo also revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson helped him a lot after the World Cup, as did Rooney, who also told him:
“Let's speak about the present, let's win trophies together!”
