While Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side have touched down in Kiev without Daniel Sturridge the loaned-out frontman has still managed to sneak into the headlines.
Reports this week have suggested that the 28-year-old English international hadn’t spoken to his parent club’s German coach since he was shipped out on load to the now-relegated West Brom in January.
Sturridge only managed a total of five league appearances for the Baggies, having been struck down by yet another injury problem on what was only his third showing for the Midlands outfit.
While another in a long list of knocks will no doubt have angered Sturridge, reports suggesting that he’d fallen out with Klopp as a result of him shipping him to West Brom seem wide of the mark.
He took to social media to confirm that he’d been in touch with the club’s management team to wish them well ahead of their momentous occasion in the Ukraine.
“Spoke to the boss and Michael Edwards over the couple of days and wished them good luck for the final,” he said.
“Wished my teammates good luck after the semis and this week.”
It would seem that reports of a breakdown in communication between the two are wide of the mark.
A disagreement with Sturridge would likely be the last thing on Jurgen Klopp’s mind, though, even if the Englishmen did fancy getting involved in one, as with the task of bringing the biggest prize in the European football back to Merseyside looming he’s got more important things at hand.
