Footballers are absolutely obsessed with celebrations these days.
For some players the celebration even seems to be more important than the actual goal itself.
But back in the day, celebrations were a lot simpler.
Perhaps the most iconic of which was the traditional one-arm raised in the air from Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer, you know the one we’re talking about.
The celebration was seen a lot over the years too, more than any other in fact, as Shearer just so happens to be the Premier League’s all-time greatest goalscorer (fact), blasting in an eye-popping 260 goals, 52 more than his closest rival Wayne Rooney.
On Saturday night in Newcastle boxer Dave Allen paid tribute to the former Toon goal machine after he knocked out his opponent Samir Nebo inside one round.
Shearer was there to see it too, as the British heavyweight they call ‘The White Rhino’ celebrated the 15th win of his 21 fight career by gleefully steering away with one arm hoisted in the air, much to the delight of the fans present.
As is custom, social media was quick to react to the memorable moment…
