David De Gea Makes Bizarre Error As Manchester United Go Behind At Arsenal

Manchester United keeper David De Gea may be one of the top goalkeepers in the world but has had an absolute shocker here as Arsenal have taken an early lead. With the scores level at 0-0, the home side began to press forward looking for the opening goal.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka picked up the ball some distance out and tried speculative effort which looked like it would not trouble De Gea as it was low and relatively central. However, somehow, De Gea misjudged the shot and the ball swerved past him to his right-hand side.

Xhaka had put some curve onto the ball, but with a clear line of sight this in an inexcusable error for a goalkeeper of his quality. De Gea has now kept less clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge which shows just how much he has struggled in the league this season.

He may have made some key saves in big games but the numbers do not lie and De Gea has been below his best this year. Some blamed the poor defence under Jose Mourinho but even though Solskjaer has improved the side no end, the defensive frailties seem to still be there.

United could have taken the lead when Romelu Lukaku hit the bar from just six yards out and they were made to pay when Xhaka gave Arsenal the lead. Is this a poor De Gea error or did he have a reasonable excuse? Watch below and judge for yourself.
