Manchester United have made huge progress in their contract talks with David De Gea and reports suggest he could now be set to sign a new long-term deal to stay at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old is now close to signing a new contract despite the current turbulence at the club under Jose Mourinho.

United are desperate to keep hold of their star player after Mourinho gave his thoughts on the matter: “If we want to be Manchester United, we need the best players in the world. We have the best goalkeeper in the world.”

Ed Woodward and co are now set to put their hands deep into their pockets and offer De Gea a huge new deal worth £400k a week, according to The Sun, making him the best-paid goalkeeper in the world, and one of the highest paid players at the club.

This deal puts him above Paul Pogba and alongside Alexis Sanchez as the highest-earning player at Manchester United and the club were desperate to keep him at any cost. PSG are still keen to try and tempt him to France with a similar wage offer and see him as a long-term replacement for Gigi Buffon but Alphonse Areola has come to the fore as their number one this season.

David De Gea now looks set to stay at Old Trafford way into his thirties and this news will come as a great relief to Manchester United fans all over the world. You can see where this new David De Gea contract will rank amongst other keepers here.
