Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been in decent form this season in the Premier League, conceding just five goals, a figure only bettered by Manchester City. Since his move from Roma for £56m he has been a massive upgrade for The Reds and made them genuine Premier League title contenders.
He is still Brazil’s number one, despite close but friendly competition with Man City number one Ederson. In an exclusive interview with GoalUK he said:
“When we’re on national duty we’re teammates, but obviously we talk about it. This rivalry is important so everyone can grow, so it’s also important for the Brazilian national team. We play at the highest level in the Premier League so keeping this high level of competition is key.”
He then went on to talk about the goalkeepers he admires in world football at the moment.
“Well, I always liked to watch goalkeepers with their styles, their strengths and flaws, to learn something and improve. From my childhood I always looked to Taffarel, our biggest goalkeeper idol in Brazil. "He had technical quality, perfect positioning, so he's a goalkeeper that always inspired me.
"Also Gianluigi Buffon, he, for me, is one of the best in the history of football, if not the best."
On the top goalkeepers around today, he appears to snub Manchester United number one David De Gea saying: "I like [Jan] Oblak; he’s one I follow very closely and [Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen. Both of them are greats. There are others, but at this point, these are the ones that are showing more. Very high technical level, very high concentration level too; they are raising the competition level among us goalkeepers. It’s a healthy competition to see which of us will be the best at the end of the year."
