Sergio Garcia endured a nightmare start to his Masters defence after finding the dreaded drink a staggering five times in a row on the 15th hole of his opening round.
What. A. Disaster.
Last year Garcia finally ended his elusive search for his first major triumph after edging out Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose to win the Masters in what was his 74th attempt at glory in golf’s top four tournaments.
Garcia headed into the 2018 edition of the Augusta event looking to become a multiple major winner and double Green Jacket sporter, however the Spaniard’s chances of winning the event were abruptly ended on the 15th hole of the first round of his defence, while his chances of even making the cut are now remote.
Garcia pinged his ball into the water a whopping FIVE times on the spin before finally, to the relief of just about everyone, finding the green to then go on and card an absolutely gargantuan 13 on the par-5 hole.
Look away now Garcia fans...that’s the worst score on a Masters hole in an eye-popping 38 years dating all the way back to 1980 - when Tom Weiskopf scored 13 too (sorry Tom!) - while unsurprisingly it’s the worst ever score on the par-5 15th in Masters history.
The shocking showing left the confidence-crushed 38-year-old on 15 over par, with only amateur Harry Ellis below him on the Masters Leaderboard.
On the plus side Garcia has just made all of us amateur golfers feel a lot better about our own game...
