What a way to start the week for Tyson Fury!

Back in December the world watched as the Gypsy King and the American WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder went toe-to-toe in Las Vegas, with Wilder controversially retaining his title on a points decision.

It was however, a story about one thing; it was what Fury’s comeback had been leading to, after an astonishingly long spell out of the sport, battling mental health issues, and now granting him passage into the upper echelons of the boxing elite once again with an almost flawless performance in the ring, epitomised by Fury stunning onlookers by popping back up off the canvas after being caught by the Bronze Bomber in the 12th and final round.

In a stunning announcement this week it was revealed that Tyson Fury had signed a multi-year co-promotional deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank to work alongside promoter Frank Warren which means he will now headline shows on ESPN in the USA.

In a subsequent interview with BT Sport, the “fit as a fiddle and healthy as a trout” Fury expressed his delight at the new deal, with Warren, and the position he now finds himself in compared to where he was a year ago.

“Whatever happens in my life, whatever cards I’m dealt, I’m happy with. Can’t complain, I’m healthy and well and out of trouble.”

Though he talked about the respect and tentative admiration he has for Wilder, in Fury’s eyes, Wilder is still a big useless dosser".

When probed about a fight with Anthony Joshua Frank Warren said they had approached Joshua’s camp but they demanded ‘all the money’. Warren suggested however that the tables have now turned thanks to their new deal;

‘We’re on a bigger platform, with more subscribers…Tyson’s got the shop window. They’ve got to come to us now.”

Fury’s camp are now looking at three fights in 2019, having fought three in around six months in his 2018 comeback year but ultimately Fury addressed what he would consider to be a successful year;

“To be sat here at the end of 2019, if I’m healthy and well, it will have been a very successful year”.
