Deontay Wilder may have controversially retained his WBC heavyweight title back at the beginning of December with ‘victory’ over Gypsy King Tyson Fury, but had to suffer the ignominy this weekend o0f watching his younger brother Marsellos defeated in a shock cruiserweight victory to William Deets this weekend.
Deets had a track record of 12 losses in 19 fights, but dropped Wilder to the floor in the fourth-round, with the fight subsequently stopped after it became apparent that Wilder was unable to continue
M. Wilder is set to arrive in the United Kingdom next month to fight on the James DeGale versus Chris Eubank undercard, in what will be his fifth professional bout, and one that he would have hoped would have gone a lot more successfully that the event this weekend.
However, a ban was slapped on the younger Wilder after the knockout.
“I feel super duper blessed,” the 29-year-old said pre-ban. “I’m grateful to get this ultimate experience to be able to go to another country and showcase my talents to another culture.
“I’m going to give it my all and give it my best for the fans in the UK and represent the US.”
Unfortunately he’s going to now have to wait a little longer, and build up a tad more credibility following his latest defeat, which has blotted his copybook; before Deets made him eat the ring floor, Marsellos had a 3-0 perfect record.
His older brother meanwhile, is continuing to field questions as to when his next fight or rematch with Fury is due to happen.
