Done Deal? Chelsea Close In On Sensational Serie A Swap Deal But Can This Striker Solve Their Problems?
The transfer merry-go-round is spluttering into gear and Chelsea are seemingly at the forefront of everything that is happening at the moment, with reports suggesting the Blues are on the verge of an impressive swap involving a Serie A forward.
According to The Sun, Chelsea are closing in on Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata could be heading the other way on loan to AC Milan.
Higuain is on loan with Serie A side AC Milan from Juventus currently, but he has struggled to impress during a tough season for the Rossoneri, scoring just eight goals in 20 appearances in all competitions.
The 31-year-old is no spring chicken but he would surely relish the chance to link up with his old coach Maurizio Sarri after they flourished during their time together at Napoli. Higuain scored 38 goals in 42 games for Sarri, before the striker earned a move to Juventus.
Higuain's powers have been on the wane since then though as he scored 24 goals and 16 goals during his respective first two campaigns with Juve, before he was shipped off on loan to AC Milan this season.
Is he the man to solve Chelsea's goalscoring problems?
The Blues are the lowest scorers of the traditional 'Big Six' teams in the Premier League this season and they have failed to score against Leicester, Everton, Southampton and West Ham. It's the lack of a killer instinct in the final third that has derailed their Premier League title hopes.
Higuain is past his prime as a forward but a reunion with Sarri could help him find his spark, albeit it will be a tough ask for him to adapt to English football during the next few months.
Alvaro Morata knows how difficult life in England can be as the misfiring forward has scored just 16 goals in the top-flight since joining from Real Madrid in 2017. Morata looks set to head to AC Milan on loan and it is as deal that appears to make sense for all parties.
