Early Season Liverpool Player Ratings: Van Dijk, Mane and Milner The Stand Out Performers

Everything is rosy in the Liverpool garden at the moment as fans of the club sit back and take stock during this International break. Four wins from four games and just the one goal conceded means that Jurgen Klopp's men sit top of the Premier League table, with many believing this is finally the year they can mount a serious title challenge.

A number of big name new signings arrived at Anfield during a busy summer transfer window to complement a squad which reached the Champions League Final and although there are much tougher tests to come, the early signs are extremely positive. There is a new found confidence about the team which hasn't been evident in the past with their ability to grind out victories looking like one of their key assets, alongside their undoubted attacking flair.

It is early to be judging players of course but with a break before the next game against Spurs, we have given the Liverpool squad a mark out of ten for the first four matches of the season...

Alisson - 8 Mistake at Leicester apart, Alisson has been a massive addition to this Liverpool squad so far and the early signs suggest that the Brazilian is the player they have been looking for between the posts. It helps when you can save shots.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 8 The young England full-back made the position his own last term and he continues to go from strength to strength under the tutelage of Klopp. Calm and assured in defence and effective going forward, this lad is becoming a superstar.

Joe Gomez - 9 Gomez has always been a talent but with the injuries behind him, he looks assured of is place in the team after four excellent displays. A rock during the win at Leicester, the former Charlton man looks set to be the long term partner for Virgil Van Dijk.

Virgil Van Dijk - 9 What can you say about this bloke? A colossus in all areas of the game and the glue that holds the Liverpool defence together.  The best centre-back in the Premier League, obvs.

Andrew Robertson - 9 Another player who this time last year was an un-fancied cheap signing from Hull but who is now amongst the best in the Premier League in his role. Hasn't put a foot wrong in defence and produced a key assist for Sadio Mane at the King Power Stadium.

Georginio Wijnaldum - 8 Wijnaldum tends to do go under the radar but has looked at home as the deep lying midfielder so far this term. Lots of energy and tends to keep possession. Solid.

James Milner - 9 Hard to overstate just how good Milner has been so far for Jurgen Klopp this term and looks to be improving as he gets older, much like a fine wine. Energy and work rate are a given but his quality has been there in abundance and he looks to have plenty more to come.

Naby Keita - 7 The signing from Bundesliga hit the ground running with some sensational play between the lines in the first two games and there is every chance the former RB Leipzig man can become one of the best in the world. Has run out of steam late in games so far but when you are as good as he is, who cares.

Mo Salah - 7 The Egyptian hasn't quite been at his brilliant best so far in terms of sharpness after the his struggles at the World Cup but he has still been a major part of the strong start to the season and will only improve from here.

Roberto Firmino -7 Similar comments to that of Salah with Firmino nowhere near his brilliant best so far, but still remaining a key part of the team. Excellent header against Leicester and there is more to come from Bobby.

Sadio Mane - 9.5 Mane has been slightly in the shadow of his two colleagues up front over the past year but that isn't the case so far this term with the former Saints man flying high. Four goals from four matches is a terrific start and looks set for his best ever campaign.

Henderson - 7 - Late back from the World Cup but looked as reliable as ever when called upon. Deserved his new contract.
