Manchester City assistant coach Enzo Maresca is the favourite to take the vacant Celtic manager’s job when Ange Postecoglo departs to Premier League Tottenham Hotspur on July 1.
Whoever replaces the Australian will have some big shoes to fill, with Postecoglou winning five trophies, including two league titles, in his two years at Celtic Park.
Maresca, who won Serie A with Juventus and two Uefa Cups with Sevilla as a player, found himself coaching as part of Manchester City’s youth set-up after hanging up his boots. After an unsuccessful spell at Parma, the Italian returned to the Etihad where he operated as an assistant to Pep Guardiola.
The former West Bromwich Albion midfielder is now odds-on (10/11) for the job with the Hoops, having overtaken former manager Brendan Rodgers (9/4). Rodgers has been out of work since losing his job at Leicester City earlier this year.
The Northern Irishman had an incredibly prosperous time in Glasgow last time around, going undefeated in his first campaign and winning trebles in each of his first two seasons. However, the manner of his exit in 2019, in which he moved to Leicester, may be a bone of contention among the Celtic faithful.
Also in the running is Mumbai City manager Des Buckingham (8/1), FK Bodø/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen (10/1), who is also being targeted by Ajax, and recent Europa Conference League winner David Moyes (12/1).
