Euro 2022 was a roaring success for the growth of the women’s game. We have already started to see the effects of what England’s triumph has had on society with more and more people turning up to this season's Women’s Super League matches.

But how can we quantify the successes of the summer tournament?

Well, look no further as thanks to an impact report released by Uefa and the FA, we can now see just how much of a game-changer the international tournament was.

Here are the key findings from the report.

Attendances

  • A total of 574,875 attended matches across the duration of the Euros, which included 110,555 international spectators from 104 countries.

  • The final between England and Germany broke the record for a Euros showpiece with 87,192 attendees. The average attendance at matches was 18,544.

  • 85% of spectators are likely to return to matches, domestic or international in the future.

Growth of the professional game

  • 289% increase in media rights values since the last Euros.

  • 84% of attendees say that Euro 2022 changed their perception of women’s football.

  • 88% say they will watch a domestic or international match on TV in the future.

Grassroots football participation

  • Over 416,000 new opportunities created in England across schools, clubs, and the community to engage women and girls in grassroots legacy football activities across the host cities.

Economic impact 

  • Host cities received a £81m boost in economic activity as a result.

  • Domestic and international visitors made over 552,000 day and overnight trips to host cities.

Enhanced international reach

  • A projected global live viewership of 365m, across 195 territories

  • Globally, Euro 2022 generated 453m cumulative social interactions

As many of the Lionesses said after their Euro 2022, becoming European champions wasn’t by any means the end, only the beginning. They strived to raise the profile of the women’s game and from this newly-published data, it has certainly worked.
