Everton manager Marco Silva is facing fresh criticism from sections of the club’s support this evening after the toffees fell to a disappointing loss against Ralf Hassenhutl’s Southampton at St. Mary’s.
A late Gylfi Sigurdsson goal left a respectable gloss on the final scoreline, making it 2-1, but all is not well at Goodison.
Everton sit eleventh in the table after today’s result, far below where they were expected to be after a summer of heavy investment in the playing squad from new owner Farhad Moshiri.
Comparisons emerging on social media between the performance levels under the club’s Portuguese coach Marco Silva and previous managers, including that great benchmark of mediocrity Sam Allardyce, do not cast his tenure in a good light.
Having been in charge of the club for 23 league games, Silva has collated 30 points. That’s less than Roberto Martinez (42), Ronald Koeman (37), Sam Allardyce (34).
His win percentage at Goodison comes up at 34.78%, comparing unfavourably to Allardyce’s 38.5%.
After a reported £90m investment during the last transfer window, Silva won’t be allowed to go back to the market to solve his problems either.
“We don't have the financial conditions to go in the market, is the feedback I have at the moment," he said recently.
The solution to putting together some improved performances, it seems, will have to be internal.
Some of the many vocal critics of the manager within the fan base, though, don’t want him to even be afforded that chance.
