The consensus number one light heavyweight in the world, Artur Beterbiev, steps into the ring this Friday. The unbeaten Russian will defend his WBC and IBF belts against Marcus Browne, a top contender who has only once tasted defeat. Beterbiev has stopped every single one of his sixteen opponents, and will be looking to end his year with a bang against the American.
The co-main event sees the vacant IBF women’s super welterweight championship up the grabs, as former champion Marie Eve Dicaire faces Mexican power puncher Cynthia Lozano.
Here’s everything you need to know about a big Friday night at the fights.
Where: Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada
When: Friday 17th December, (1am Saturday UK time)
How To Watch: Sky Sports Main Event
Tale Of The Tape:
Place Of Birth: Khasavyurt, Dagestan, Russia
Record: 16-0 (16KOs)
Last Fight: Beterbiev broke down German contender Adam Deines for a tenth round stoppage in his last outing. The bout was actually Artur’s first in Russia, as the majority of his career has played out in Canada and the United States. Beterbiev holds dual citizenship for both Russia and Canada, and will be fighting at the Bell Centre for the sixth time in his career.
Place Of Birth: Staten Island, New York, USA
Record: 24-1 (16 KOs)
Last Fight: Browne was coming off his only career defeat as he went into his last bout, a ten-round decision win over Denis Grachev. His Russian opponent was very much a journeyman, and the fight was more about resetting Browne’s confidence than scoring a career-defining win. In his previous outing, he had been stopped by world class campaigner Jean Pascal.
