It’s that time of year again. Just as the superstars of world football are gearing up to deliver another season of excitement, we are just a month away from doing a terrible job of controlling said superstars before throwing our controllers at a wall. Yes, it’s nearly time for FIFA 23.
This iteration of the multi-million-selling football gaming franchise is set to be the last released by EA Sports, with the developer turning their attention to new series EA Sports FC next year. FIFA insist this will not be the last game to bear their famous name though, with another developer being sought.

But that’s the future, and this is now. There’s still one more EA Sports-produced FIFA game on the way. So what can you expect from FIFA 23? Here’s everything we know so far.
Release Date: 30th September 2022
Platforms: PS5, Xbox One X/S, PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (Legacy Edition)
New Leagues: Barclays FA Women’s Super League, French Division 1 Arkema, Vanarama National League (Rumoured)
Removed Leagues: Liga BBVA MX, J-League
Demo: No announcement has been made, but the FIFA demo usually arrives around two weeks before release.
Gameplay Features:
Hypermotion2 Technology: Advanced motion capture technology used to capture over 6000 individual player movements. Using data captured directly from the pitch during real-life games, EA aims to have their players move more naturally than ever.
Technical Dribbling: A feature intended to make ball control a more important facet of dribbling than pace. Players with high stats for control will have access to smoother, more intuitive dribbling. Both Technical Dribbling and Hypermotion2 are only available in the next-gen versions of the title, namely the PS5, Xbox One X/S and PC editions.
AcceleRATE: The old FIFA failsafe is getting a revamp in 23. Rather than all players being either quick or not quick, speed will have more dynamics this year. Some players will be fast over short bursts, others will be able to sustain speedy runs over longer periods. EA have acknowledged not all pace is created equal, and there will be subtle nuances this year.
Power Shot: A new high-risk, high-reward strike. To hit a Power Shot takes a large amount of backlift, meaning it should only be attempted at certain times. But the results are spectacular. It could be just the ticket to bail your team out of trouble late in the game.

Career Mode Features:
Real-Life Managers: For a number of years now, real-life coaches have been visible on the FIFA sidelines cajoling, clapping and occasionally despairing of their players. But until now, these iconic coaches were only in the opposing dugout. FIFA 23 gives players the long-awaited chance to play as Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and over 350 other authentic managers. You can choose to continue their legacy at their current club or take them to pastures new. Time to prove once-and-for-all that Pep could get Harrogate Town promoted out of League Two.
Playable Highlights: The Sportsman does not condone simulating your Career Mode games but if you do partake in this sweaty practice, FIFA 23 has got you covered. Playable Highlights will allow you to dip into your simulated games at select times to play out key stages and ensure your team wins. Of course the best way of ensuring your team wins is probably just to play the whole game.
Transfer Analyst: A new tool to help you make the best deals. The Transfer Analyst will give you ratings for how much financial sense a deal makes as well as how the player will fit into your squad and whether your signing is better than the other players in their position at the club.
Dynamic Moments: An expansion of the between-game animations that immerse you in your career at the club. Alongside the usual press conferences and trophy presentations, moments such as new signings being shown around the training ground and players receiving Man of the Match awards will be added.
Player Personality: In Player Career, your actions and attitude will now shape how you are treated and perceived. Categories like Maverick, Virtuoso and Heartbeat will determine what sort of player you are. Are you the wild, untameable Zlatan Ibrahimovic or the reliable, studious James Milner-type? The choice is yours.
