Everything You Need To Know Ahead Of Maxi Hughes Vs Kid Galahad

We've got you covered ahead of a top night of boxing in Nottingham
07:00, 21 Sep 2022

Former featherweight world champion Kid Galahad jumps up two weight classes this weekend when he takes on Maxi Hughes for the fellow Yorkshireman’s IBO lightweight title.

Leigh Wood’s WBA featherweight clash with Mauricio Lara had been scheduled to headline this event in Nottingham until a bicep injury ruled out the former and Hughes vs Galahad was elevated to main event status in its place.

While the absence of that fight is disappointing, there’s still plenty to enjoy; on top of Hughes/Galahad, there’s also a fascinating IBO and WBA super-welterweight showdown between Hannah Rankin and Terri Harper to look forward to and an array of emerging talent on show. Here’s everything you need to know.

What They Say:

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport chairman: “We’re gutted to lose such an explosive headliner in Leigh Wood vs. Mauricio Lara but unfortunately Leigh suffered a torn bicep during sparring and there’s no way he can get in the ring against such a dangerous opponent with only one arm.

“There’s more action on the undercard with Hannah Rankin defending her WBA belts against Terri Harper. Both Hughes vs. Galahad and Rankin vs. Harper are worthy of headlining their own shows and we’ve got some of the best emerging talent featuring on the undercard such as Cyrus Pattinson and Junaid Bostan.”
