Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged over comments he made in the direction of TV cameras following his side's win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
On a day when some newspaper reports said he'd be sacked, Mourinho made comments in Portugese as he headed for the tunnel on October 6.
It was a dramatic, emotionally-charged game as United overhauled a 2-0 deficit against the Magpies to win 3-2.
It has been alleged that the 55-year-old used "abusive, insulting or improper language" and the FA used a lip reader and the comments were interpreted as offensive.
As he made a gesture with his little finger, Mourinho, according to The Times, allegedly said: "fodas filhos de puta" in Portuguese which translates as ‘f*** off, sons of b*****s’.
He has until 6pm on October 19 to respond to the charge.
Mourinho accused the media of conducting a "man hunt" against him after the game. In a memorable rant he said: "As a friend of mine was saying to me this morning, if tomorrow it rains in London it is my fault. If there are some difficulties with the agreements of Brexit, it is my fault. I have to be ready for all of this. I think a lot of wickedness and clear manhunting in football is too much. It is my life. It is the life I love and since I was a kid I work for this.’
Despite the speculation about his immediate future, Mourinho kept his job and this week faces his old club Chelsea.
