Fallon Sherrock has been awarded a place at the PDC World Darts Championship which means three female players will take part in the Alexandra Palace event next month.

Sherrock seemingly missed out on a place after teenage star Beau Greaves claimed the second qualification spot from the Women's Series Order of Merit, along with Lisa Ashton.

However, she will now be competing in the World Darts Championship again after being awarded a place for winning the inaugural Betfred Women's World Matchplay in Blackpool in July,  with the PDC adding an extra spot for her.

Greaves, 18, threw a record women's average of 107.86 as she beat Sherrock 5-3 for a seventh consecutive title in the Women's Series Order of Merit to book her place at the World Darts Championship for the first time in her career. The tournament starts from 15 December to 3 January.

Sherrock, who defeated Aileen de Graaf at the Betfred World Matchplay decider in Blackpool in July, said: "That was a wonderful day for me and I'm proud to have won, and it's great that I will now get to go back to Ally Pally.

"The PDC have done amazing things for women's darts in recent years and that's given us players a platform to play at the highest level."

Sherrock made history at the World Darts Championship in 2019 with victories over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic and, alongside Greaves and Ashton, she will be out to stun the men once again.

It was also announced by the PDC that the Women’s Series circuit was expanding from 20 events to 24 for 2023 and that each tournament will have £10,000 in prize money on offer - double that of 2022.
